A fine walking cane with decorative
gold grip engraved "Presented by a Patient to Dr. J. A. Axtelle 1886." The
shaft is ebony or ebonized hardwood ending in a gold-plated (?) steel tip.
The grip is heavily engraved with a floral motif and bears a hallmark with
an "S" inside a shield, with "2" above. 35 3/4" long in fine overall
condition.
Note: This cane was found in New England. A Dr. Axtelle in CT is mentioned
several times in the C. S. Miller journals, with dates around 1898-9
