An attractive folding tongue
depressor with smooth ebony handle and fenestrated blade in nickel plated
brass. The blade is marked W.F. Ford - NY in one place, and Caswell Hazard
& Co. in another. These two firms were both in operation in New York in
the last third of the 19th C. Ford was likely the manufacturer and Caswell
Hazard the retailer.
The condition is excellent noting a barely noticeable sliver of ebony lost
from one edge of the handle, and two very small spots of plating loss. The
hinge is tight and holds the blade firming at about 130 degrees when open.
Measures 3 3/4" folded; about 6" opened.
